Music track of the day: the New Pornographers-Mass Romantic

Classified under:,
Before September 11th, the music scene was bursting at the scenes with the renaissance of Rock and an optimism that had been told in the late 90s. Call it millenium paranoia in reverse. Leave it up to a Canadian band to capture the sheer wide eyed joy as we entered the 21st Century. The New Pornographers, led by Victoria native Neko Casehad a killer single, Mass Romantic, that was played on all the college radio stations that year. What I dig about the song is the unrelenting cheeriness and the great keyboard in the background. Worth checking out.

S'amazing, I just dusted off this album last night to give a listen. 2003's Electric Version is amazing too.

What's the difference between the two?

There's actually probly less catchy tunes, to be perfectly honest. I still prefer Mass Romantic, the critics at large prefer Electric Version. I will say that there are some gems on EV, and the album as a whole as a bit more flow.

I'd also recommend Destroyer. The lead guy is from New Pornographers as well, and they're good. I saw them live with Flaming Lips and Modest Mouse, and honestly, it was slightly lacklustre, but I've heard their album stuff and its good, and I know a lot of people who went to their solo show and had their brains thouroughly mindfucked.

Cool. I'll have to check them out, then.
